Token-based API access available by default

We are happy to announce that token-based automated API access is now enabled for all accounts by default. Your token is displayed on your profile page when logged in.

See the API documentation for more information on how to use the API.

API request limits remain in place. If you find that you need large volumes of data and are hitting the limits, do contact us to discuss options.

More years, more papers, more turbines

For the past few months, we have been running a closed beta test, offering four years of data.  Thanks to all our users that took part in testing!  Since this ran smoothly, we are happy to announce that as of today, the Ninja is able to serve 17 years of weather and renewables data – from 2000 through to 2016.

New Ninja design and features

Today we are pleased to unveil the next generation of the Renewables.ninja website! The website is now cleaner, fully mobile responsive, and features a new “country mode” interface to help you easily select and download nationally aggregated wind and solar output. In addition, in light of user feedback, the wind data in the new country mode is now separated into onshore and offshore.

New papers are published

We are pleased to announce that the two peer-reviewed papers describing the Renewables.ninja models were published today in the journal Energy. These papers describe the underlying models that generate wind and solar time series data, demonstrate their validation across Europe, and then use them to study the impacts of wind and solar power across Europe in the near future.
